Torwesten Revolutionizes Beer Transportation for Large-Scale Events Utilizing the Mega-Inliner® System

The Mega-Inliner® System is a game-changer, allowing for efficient and sustainable bulk transportation of beer. Torwesten operates a fleet of over 150 tankers, ranging in size from 70 to 310 hectoliters, including multi-compartment tankers. Last year, Torwesten made a strategic decision to integrate the Mega-Inliner® System into its portfolio, recognizing its potential to streamline operations and enhance sustainability.

During events like the European Championship, beer transport was a logistical challenge. But, thanks to the Mega-Inliner® System Torwesten’s approach is easy and direct, the beer is transported from the brewery directly to the customer, whether it’s a stadium, fan zone, or gastronomy establishment. This can be facilitated by connecting the Mega-Inliner® Tank Container directly to the tapping installation, it basically functions like a big keg of 25.000L. Distributing the beer from the tank to the taps is simply done with compressed air, saving massive CO2 emissions at the event.

While exact figures for the number of loads and liters of beer transported during the European Championship are not disclosed, Torwesten anticipates significant demand, particularly in fan zones where consumption can reach hundreds of thousands of liters.

Torwesten has currently established a hub in Essen for the European Championship and for one of the world’s leading breweries that has production in Southern Germany. The company is looking for a cost-efficient, reliable, and high-quality solution to get the beer to their customers in the Ruhr area, and there are plans to further expand the hub to other cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, and Stuttgart.

The use of our Mega-Inliner® System brings numerous benefits on the operational side. It eliminates the need for tank cleaning and purging, as the beer is transported in airtight Mega-Inliners® that keep the beer in perfect condition without the need for CO2. This not only saves time and CO2 but also ensures the beer stays fresh for longer periods as it does not oxidize by oxygen and or cross-contamination nor any CO2 can escape out of the beer.

In terms of sustainability, the Mega-Inliner® System significantly reduces CO2 emissions compared to traditional kegs or ISO tank systems. While exact figures are still being calculated, Torwesten anticipates minimal a substantial reduction of >25%  in CO2 emissions by utilizing our innovative Mega-Inliner® System in comparison with conventional tank containers. Torwesten provides with the Mega-Inliner® System also a hub application for last-mile cellar beer distribution. As Germany gastronomy establishment converts more and more to cellar beer systems every 10 hl converted from kegs, it reduces the CO2 emission by a minimum of 4 Kg CO2 of the same equivalent of 20 x 50ltr kegs cycle independent of the 1:7 ratio on kegs needed in the supply chain from brewery to tap, imagine the CO2 reduction in Germany.

They anticipate a shift towards tank beer, driven by its efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
